President Cindy Soltis-Stroud
Please share any suggestions or let us know if you would like to volunteer on any committee. This is YOUR organization.
It’s hard to believe that time goes by so quickly. We are already in the New Year and getting ready for convention. As always, the board is working very hard to ensure that convention has great education, great exhibitors and lots of fun and networking opportunities. This year we are starting Sunday off with the CE classes and the President’s Welcome Party “Denim and Diamonds Casino Night” directly followed by the fun auction.
What I really want to talk about is the election process for next year’s board of directors. We will be voting for President Elect, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and 2 Board Members positions. Everyone is welcome to nominate people from the floor during Monday’s Business Meeting. However, is this best practice? It would be better for everyone to be introduced to candidates and their qualifications prior to the business meeting. When we nominate from the floor everyone has 3 minutes to talk about themselves but that doesn’t leave the members anytime for one on one discussion with the candidates if they chose to do so. Best practice would be for people who are interested to submit their candidacy consideration request to Krista as soon as possible in advance of the convention. I encourage everyone who is interested in any of the positions being voted on to submit your application ASAP.
All Board of Director positions are voluntary and are a significant commitment of time, energy and resources. We do it to better the industry, better the Association and most importantly to bring the best resources and opportunities to our members. When our members are educated and have the resources they need to improve themselves and their business the Association grows and the Industry benefits.
I encourage everyone to get involved. I hear many auctioneers state when they run for a position on the board “I have built a successful auction business because of my participation as an association member and now it is time for me to give back”. I did things a little differently. I got involved with the board as soon as I was qualified and worked my up to the Presidency while building our auction business. Many of us are on our second careers and bring an insurmountable amount of knowledge and experience to the auction industry and the Association. I encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved on the board to do so and bring your talents and experience to the table to move the Association to growth in size and financial wealth for the betterment of our members and the auction industry.
The board members that have served you this past year are phenomenal. They definitely go above and beyond for the membership. Please thank them for their service when you see them. I have been blessed to be your president for the past year and to have served on the board for the last 6 years. I will serve one more year as past president and then make room for others to join. It has been a rewarding experience and I thank each and every one of you for your support.
